WELCOME
TO THE PEST PROJECT!
P.E.S.T. stands for Peer
Education Skills Training but it also stands for young people
taking action for themselves and for their peers. We chose the
name P.E.S.T. because young people are often perceived to be
a nuisance, as pests, but we believe that young people can take
positive and constructive action to tackle issues that are important
to them. The P.E.S.T. project is about using Peer
Education to skill young people up to tackle whatever they
want to know more about or whatever they want to change. The
P.E.S.T. project is about providing support and training to young
people and the organisations that they are involved with so that
they can make change happen. If you want to know more please e-mail us
and we will do our best to answer your questions!

PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR |
Hiya! I’m Tara and I coordinate the PEST project. I’m 30 and I live in Edinburgh. I’ve worked for Article 12 in Scotland for over 7 years - mostly part-time - and have worked in various youth work and young people’s participation projects for the last 10 years which has helped me to gain lots of different skills and experience.
The first year of the PEST project was great; I really enjoyed getting out and about, meeting new folk and seeing what was happening in different areas of the country. As you can see from the End of Year Report on this page, PEST had a busy first year.
Year 2 has been exciting too; amongst others we have worked with LGBT Youth Council, West Lothian Council, the Rock Trust and the young people from One Million Voices Scotland. Again, the breadth of topics has been wide and varied. Our Year 2 report will be available at the end of June. Article 12 in Scotland's international partners have also been making use of PEST resources and we are pleased to announced that along with the organisations metioned earlier Eye of the Child Malawi will take part in this year's annual showcase event which will take place on Friday the 27th of June at Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh.
The great thing about PEST is that there are no limitations on the topics that we can work on using peer education techniques. This has made the work exciting and varied…definitely not boring! We always welcome queries and new ideas, so if you have an idea and want to talk it over, please feel free to get in touch. A’ the best!

"Hello!
I'm Regan. I'm 22 and I'm currently studying History of Art with German at the
University of Aberdeen.
I've been involved with Article 12 in Scotland since I was
about 15 and over the course of the past six years I've taken
part in a number of campaigns with the organisation, including
lowering the voting age and Make Poverty History. I also spent
a year in Germany where I worked for an environmental organisation,
this was through EVS (European Voluntary Service) and was over-seen
by Article 12 in Scotland.
Article 12 in Scotland is run by real young
people who have led real lives.
We believe, from past experience, that peer education is
one of, if not THE, best way of communicating
important skills and information and that's why we are facilitating
this project!" |

Hi! I'm Anna. I'm 30 and live in Aberdeen. I've been involved with Article 12 in Scotland for two years and have taken part in a number of their campaigns including UNCRC for Beginners Training and the All Different All Equal Campaign.
I'm the latest recruit to the PEST project. Before PEST I was at uni in Aberdeen studying History. I wanted to get involved with PEST as I believe that rights for young people are important in this day and age and although some work is done within an official capacity in youth groups and the government to inform you guys of your rights, I believe that you can learn a lot more and get more benefit from your friends and peers, which is what PEST is all about.
