Article 12 in Scotland are delighted to welcome Tommy Bennett into post as our new National Co-Coordinator for Learning and Development and External Relations. Tommy, who brings with him lived-experience leadership, a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to community engagement, education and rights-based work has quickly become an integral member of our small team.
Prior to joining Article 12 in Scotland, Tommy has developed a strong background in community learning and development, having worked to co-create inclusive learning spaces with young people and men from the Gypsy/Traveller community; working on complex issues such as housing, mental health and planning rights; engaging with decision makers and stakeholders at all levels, and supporting policy reform through community voice.

Hi, I’m Tommy! I’m really excited to be moving into my new role with Article 12 in Scotland, and I’m looking forward to all the great and exciting times to come! A little about me: I’m from the Gypsy/Traveller community here in Scotland and I’m very proud of my culture and history. I’ve been working in the third-sector for over 4 years, supporting communities and helping create positive change.
What excites me most about this role is the chance to keep young people at the heart of engagement. I see them not just as participants, but as future leaders and equal stakeholders in shaping policy and practice.
Away from work, I love to laugh and try not to take life too seriously. Family means the world to me! I find joy in the small things, enjoy getting lost in a good book (big fan of Harry Potter and The Help), I love music and have a real passion for history. I am an approachable, people-first kind of person – and I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes me.
